This understanding of the Message - the “pure” gospel will enlighten both how the message was applied to the culture of the sender, and also allow this person to begin applying the gospel to the recipient culture.
Before you get nervous - this process is to protect, not diminish the truth of the Gospel. An example from Bible translation may help:
I have forgotten the exact context, but a translator was working on the passage in Revelations where it says Jesus stands at the door and knocks. - Well, in the target culture, only a thief would knock on the door - anyone with good intentions would declare themselves by name. So to translate the passage in such a way as to maintain its integrity, the translation reads “I stand at the door and call.” Indeed, the author that relates the story notes that this might really be a better translation even for us.
We must find the method to take our message - without our “church language” and even our forms of worship to our needy brothers and sisters.
