Notes:
Apartment Life has taken a “Business” approach to multi-housing ministry. They get two people to commit a total of 80 hours to ministry each month in the apartment. In return, they pay for the apartment, but also require a $100-$200 monthly “due” to support their ministry. They can offer the housing because they market themselves to the apartment management, and often receive a free unit in return for their services.
Why would an apartment complex offer housing: Apartment Life offers to reduce resident turnover - and offer a rate of 40% renewals on year contracts in complexes where they have ministries. They also say that they can add 25% to new rental rates and reduce staff turnover in the complex by 60%.
There is a rule in multi-housing ministry. Do not promise things that you can not deliver. Do not start something that you can not finish. These things, more than anything else, will tarnish Christianity to the people we are trying to reach.
