Cell Group
Cell Group
- Group of 10 or more believers
Cell Church
- small church of believers (10-30) who meet in a home or small facility fulfilling the nature and purpose of the church but linked to another church or group of churches.
Notes:
In multi-housing ministry, there are some other common terms.
Much of the material use the terms Cell Church and Cell Group to define their organizational and ministry structure.
While I believe that we need to find other names in our post 9/11 culture, these groups seem unfazed by their use.
Much of the Southern Baptist model is based on the idea of developing cell groups - basically small groups of believers and people who are interested in learning. The groups may then be rolled-up into a Cell church.
The numbers for these groups differ between ministries. One of the ministries that I am most familiar with - Project Hope out of Montgomery, Alabama, wants cell groups of 12 (based on John Wesley’s model) and a cell church of 72 ( 6 cells combined)
In fact, several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go with a group from our district to visit this ministry and receive some of their training for cell group leaders and missionaries.
